Funeral services for Burton F. (Red) Petty, pioneer service station operator in Big Spring, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Nalley-Pickle Rosewood Chapel. He died at 3:35 a.m. Monday in a local hospital after a long illness.
The Rev. Conell Taylor, pastor at First Baptist Church, will officiate assisted by Dr. R. Gage Lloyd, First Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Trinity Memorial Park under direction of Nalley-Pickle Funeral Home.
Mr. Petty, along with his brother, D. H. (Herschel) Petty are credited with operating one of three "filling stations" here when they came to Big Spring in 1923. He married Stella Cauble Jan. 22, 1924 in Stanton. Mr. Petty retired May 20, 1967, and he and his wife had made their home 10 miles south of the city where he pursued a desire to raise cattle and farm.
Survivors includes his wife, one son, one daughter, four brothers, six sisters, and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Leon Webb, Walter Barth, Milton Carver, Charles Weeg, R. V. Fryar, Dick Thompson, Malcolm Patterson and Joe D. Williams. All friends are considered honorary bearers.
