At his death, left his legacy to found a hospital in downtown Texarkana, Arkansas. First known as Michael Meagher Hospital, it later became Saint Michael Hospital and was operated by Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. In 1994, the hospital moved to a sprawling complex along Interstate 30 in Texarkana, Texas, and is now known as Christus St. Michael.
