{ Obituary - Published in the Brady Standard-Herald, Brady, TX on December 29, 2021 }

Bob Al Hofmann passed away on Friday, December 24, 2021 at the age of 79. He was born January 5, 1942 in San Angelo to Bill and Billie Bell Hofmann just a few weeks after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Through his Hofmann, Schuessler, Ellebracht and Behrens ancestors he was a very proud sixth-generation Mason County resident. His maternal great-grandfather Loring had been owner and publisher of the Mason County News and in 1890 Grosspapa Hofmann had established Hofmann Dry Goods & Company where Bob Al worked for many years.

He loved history and was so proud of his many connections through family and friends across the county and hill country. He was a pall bearer in innumerable funerals and groomsman in many weddings. He grew up at his family's ranch on Bluff Creek and missed attending the Streeter school with friend Clinton Gamel by one year. The school closed and so he rode the big bus full of country kids to first grade in Mason where he was a member of Mason's first Little League team. He graduated with his beloved Class of 1960. What a time to be alive! Listen to Ronnie Milsap sing Lost in the Fifties Tonight and you will understand. He even saw Elvis sing and dance at Cherry Springs!

After graduation he joined the Army where he travelled across America. The Cuban Missile Crisis delayed his return home and attendance at Texas A&M. Back home he met Carol Carpenter at a dance in Junction and they married on his parents' anniversary, December 14, 1963. They made their home together on cousin Hoppy McMillan's Greenwood Farm on the western edge of town and then on the family ranch for over 45 years. They were members of First Christian Church. He loved children and they responded to his love. You might remember him drawing a picture or playing a game with a child or two at the big desk at Hofmann's, seeing him coach little league or having kids sit on his horse after he carried the flag in the Round Up Parade. He cherished those times and young ones now grown with kids of their own. He most especially loved grandchildren Blixen and Christian who gave him a new purpose in life after surviving cancer in 2001. His last days were spent teaching them all the blessings of ranch life like riding and hunting as well as love and respect for God's amazing creation.

Bob Al is survived by his wife and grandchildren, son Rob Hofmann and wife Shannon, and sister Jill Tallent all of Mason. He is also survived by aunt Hazel Johnson of San Angelo as well as too many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to name here. Bob Al was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be at the Mason Funeral Home on Monday, January 3rd from 1-3 p.m. Funeral services will be held graveside at the Grit Cemetery in Mason County on Monday, January 3, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. with a brother-in-law Robby Carpenter officiating.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Sidney Durst and the MHS Class of '60. Pallbearers will be niece Christi Jill Fulton, first cousins Rex Hofmann, Jeff Johnson and Steve Johnson, nephew David Carpenter, cousin Brandon Moneyhon, neighbor Antonio Chavez, and friend Henry Dominguez Jr.

Memorials may be made to Bluebonnet CASA.

Condolences may be sent to family on-line masonfuneralhome@verizon.net.
