U.S. Veteran David Otto Hoerster, of Mason and Fredericksburg, passed away on Saturday, May 21, at the age of 73. David is survived by two sons Karl David Hoerster and wife Michelle, of Suffolk, Virginia and Chris Hoerster and wife Shannon of Austin. He is also survived by a sister Martha Jane Vacek and husband Bob of Mason and a brother Charles Franklin Hoerster and wife Mona of Mason along with four grandchildren: Jackson Hoerster, Joshua Hoerster, Jake Hoerster and Zack Hoerster.
David was born in Brownwood, Texas on November 28, 1942 to Franklin Roy Hoerster and Jane Hofmann Hoerster. He was raised in Mason County and was a graduate of Mason High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. For several years David worked in the family business, Mason Wool and Mohair. David then worked for many years as a nurse at various places in Fredericksburg.
Bee keeping was a favorite hobby of David’s and he also enjoyed spending time at the family ranch. Proud of his German heritage, David taught himself to speak German. David was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg. David was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Visitation with the family will be Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg where the funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. David Priem leading the service. Interment and the committal service will follow at 12 noon at the Grit Cemetery in Mason County. Serving as pallbearers are Rob Hofmann, Brandon Moneyhon, Robert Moneyhon, Rhett Vacek, Lex Lehmburg and Jim Heath.
Memorial may be made to Holy Ghost Lutheran Church or to the Grit Cemetery Association.
