John Cuckler Westbrook of San Saba passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 in Austin, TX, at the age of 78 years 7 months and 17 days. The family will receive visitors from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2007 in the Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel in San Saba, TX. Funeral service will be Sunday, January 14, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Grit Cemetery in Mason County. John was born on May 24, 1928 to Thomas and Margurite (Cuckler) Westbrook in Texarkana, Arkansas. He served as a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy during the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict. A retired insurance agent, John was a member of the Masonic Lodge #671 in Millington, TN, the Scottish Rite-Valley of Austin, and had worked with the San Saba Volunteer EMS. Survivors include two children, Ernest Douglas Westbrook of Menard and Kathy Lee Rodd; one sister, Barbara Rodgers and husband George of Rochelle; two brothers-in-law, Carl Keith of Brady and Bill West of Libby, MT; two siters-in-law, Mary Westbrook of Baird and Wanda Westbrook of Killeen; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon, his parents, two sisters, and two brothers, Pallbearers will be Howard Ruddick, Lawton Yarbrough, Jerry Light, Will Adams, John Dagen, Danny Shaw, Rita Boultinghouse, and Linda Sloan. Honorary pallbeareres will be Jean Sowers and Waydene Ivy. Memorial donations may be made to the San Saba Volunteer EMS, 607 E. Commerce, San Saba, TX 76877; or the Cherokee Home for Children, P.O. Box 295, Cherokee, TX 76832."
