Charles W. Smith, Sr., 86, of Big Spring, died on Saturday, October 8, 2005, at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, October 10, 2005 at Trinity Memorial Park.
He was born on December 1, 1918, in Barnsdall, Oklahoma and married Juanita Collier on November 13, 1946 in Colorado City, Texas.
Mr. Smith came to Big Spring in 1929 from Oklahoma.
He had worked at Webb Air Force Base for 25 years, retiring in 1976.
Charles was a member of the original Hoyle Nix and the West Texas Cowboys Band and also enjoyed fishing and hunting for arrowheads.
He was a member of East Fourth Street Baptist Church and served in the United States Navy Seabees.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Smith of Big Spring; one son, Charles Smith, Jr. of Big Spring; one daughter, Susie Combs of Big Spring; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family suggests memorials to East Fourth Street Baptist Church Food Fund, 401 E 4th Street, Big Spring, Texas 79720.
