Gail Richard Barkley of Pflugerville Texas passed away on December 28, 2023, at the age of 89.
Richard was born to George and Velma Barkley, on July 15, 1934. He served in the Army for 3 years and went to Oklahoma State University receiving an Electric Engineering degree. After graduating, Richard worked for General Dynamics, relocating to several states. After that he owned and operated a motel in Sedalia Missouri, then moved to Texas and worked at the University of Texas. He bought and operated Austin Shirt Works and retired in 2020.
Richard, who enjoyed carpentry and woodworking in his spare time, was a wonderful doting father.
Richard is survived by his three children, Yvonne Barkley Matchett, Travis Barkley, and Robin Barkley Carson and their spouses Jeffrey Matchett, Trish Barkley, and Matt Carson. He is also survived by his grandchildren Brandon Barkley, Veronica Palmer, Elliot Matchett, and Elizabeth Matchett and his great grandchildren Noah and Landon. And by his brother Basil Barkley, and his wife Donna Barkley. Richard was predeceased by his parents, George and Velma Barkley, his brother Austin and his sister Joan.
No funeral services will be held per Richard’s wishes. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Austin Wildlife Rescue in Richard’s name.
