William (Bill) Canterbury McClugage, 77, of Cedar Park, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, the 3rd of November 2023. He was born on September 5th, 1946 in Peoria, Illinois, the son of William and Alice (Canterbury) McClugage. He exchanged wedding vows with Sharon Lehman in Geneseo, Illinois on November 2nd, 1968. They had been married 55 years.
Bill went to Peoria public schools and graduated from Richwoods High School in 1964. He was affiliated with many journalistic programs in high school including editor of the newspaper. As a high school senior, Bill started in radio at WIRL and produced the Peoria Pekin School Scope. After attending college, he went back to his first love, radio broadcasting.
Bill McClugage started his career as a DJ, then became Program Director of a number one Top 40 radio station. He received Adam Awards from Peoria Advertising and Sales Club. Bill became a sales associate of WIRL in the late 70’s. Bill, Sharon and the girls moved to Alva, Oklahoma in 1982 to manage a Love’s Country Store. After a brief career in convenience store management he moved to Austin, Texas in 1983. Bill returned to an advertising career, selling promotional products with Bell’s Promotional Products until his retirement.
Surviving family includes his spouse, Sharon, children Carolyn McClugage, Cindy (and Jeff) Foreman, and Stephanie McClugage, as well as his grandchildren, James Reid Thompson, Elizabeth and William Foreman. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, David Long and Jim McClugage, sister, Judy (McClugage) O’Keefe.
Bill was very respected by his co-workers for his creative talents, sales abilities and dedication. Family and friends will miss playing games together and his great sense of humor.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service in Bill’s honor at Grace Covenant Church / (Auditorium )
