Peter Charles Churchman, 44, of Austin, Texas passed away on November 3, 2023. He was born on November 25, 1978 in Grants, New Mexico, to Raymond and Paula Churchman.
Peter graduated from Dalhart High School in Dalhart, Texas in 1997. He played the string bass in the Dalhart private orchestra and the Amarillo Symphony Youth Orchestra from 4th grade through high school. He was also an active participant in his school’s football and baseball teams.
During his college years at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, Peter discovered a love for canoe racing. His canoe friends nicknamed him “Fuzzy”. He competed in the Texas Water Safari Race from San Marcos to Sea Drift, Texas multiple times, achieving top rankings for 3 years.
Peter married Jody Lynn Black in 2010. They had two children, Emily and Tyler. He was a devoted husband and father. He cherished his role of raising their children and took them on exciting adventures to the beach, circus, wild animal preserves, Disney World, or just sitting by the river. He ran for U.S. Congress in 2018 on the Libertarian TX-17 ticket.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jody in 2020.
In October 2023, Peter married Tisha Simpson.
Peter is survived by his parents, Raymond and Paula Churchman, his children Emily and Tyler, his sister, Loree and husband Ed Wilson, along with his nieces Hannah and Halee.
A ceremony to honor Peter’s life will be held on November 16, 2023, at 2 pm at the Humphreys Cemetery in Martindale, Texas.
