Pat was born to Charles James Gilbert and Jean Toomey Gilbert in Dallas, Texas. She lived most of her life in Garland and Richardson. She was a Girl Scout for 10 years; learning and teaching, especially outdoor skills, finally being a counsellor at Rocky Point Camp on Lake Texoma. Pat was a graduate of North Garland High School in 1978, she continued her education at Stephen F. Austin State University where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Forestry in 1983. She was an excellent student that loved learning and sharing her knowledge and wisdom on many varied subjects until her death.
Pat’s career life was spent primarily at Marlowe Industries working in material and process engineering. After retirement she spent a number of years at the Perot Museum in Dallas sharing her passion for; learning, nature and science to children of all ages. Her interest ranged from robotics to rocks, gems and minerals.
She was active in DORBA (Dallas Off Road Bicycle Association), Pink Soles in Motion, and the North Texas Chapter Master Naturalists. She was selfless and always going out of her comfort zone to meet and know people of many backgrounds. Her many varied interests allowed her to cross paths with and impact countless people around north Texas and the world.
She passed rapidly and mercifully from complications of pancreatic cancer at Parkland Hospital. Predeceased by her father, Charles Gilbert. Survived by her mother, Jean Gilbert; brother, John Roger Gilbert and sister-in-law Mary Villarreal Gilbert; nephew, Michael James Gilbert and wife Emily Osmon Gilbert; nieces, Anna Alicia Gilbert and Graciella Maria Gilbert; and many cousins. Also survived by devoted friends of 25 to 35 years who have been our anchors throughout her illness.
As there will be family only at the cremation, a Celebration of Life will be planned in the spring at the ranch she loved. Please make memorials to North Texas Master Naturalist or Texas Parks and Wildlife Department or a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
