Jerry Champion died on January 12, 2021 with his family by his side at his home in Culleoka, Texas.
He was born on June 22,1929 in Dallas ,Texas to Clarence and Irma Champion, where he grew up with his two sisters.
Jerry attended Crozier Tech High School in Dallas. While there his team won the State Championship in the 1945-46 season and again in the 1947-48 season.
Jerry was the point guard receiving all-city and all-state and was named MVP for both Championships.
He then attended Tyler Junior College where his team won the National Championship in 1949. Jerry received All-American for this win.
He married his his High School Sweetheart Patricia Andrews in 1949. They raised four Sons and two Daughters in Dallas Texas. They have seven Grandchildren,
fourteen great Grandchildren, and three great great Grandchildren.
Jerry was devoted to his wife Patricia until her death in 2008 and remained in mourning until his death.
He spent his later years coaching his Grandson ,Brody Veal, in Basketball and passing on his legacy of Basketball to him.
Jerry was admired and loved by many and could not meet someone without them saying "He is such a nice man".
Jerry is survived by two Sons, Kevin Champion and Casey Champion and two Daughters, Wendy Champion Veal and Laurie Champion Brumley, 6 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren and three great great Grandchildren.
