Otis W. Hatcher, Jr., 67, of Frisco, Texas passed away Friday, April 2, 2021. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held May 16, 2021 from 2pm to 5pm at Ozona Grill on Greenville Avenue in Dallas so everyone can gather to remember him and tell their favorite Odie stories. Otis was born June 24, 1953 in Waycross, GA son of Otis W. Hatcher, Sr. and Minnie Lee Rich Hatcher. After attending Forest Park Senior High School in Forest Park Georgia, he graduated from Georgia State University with a bachelor’s degree and went on to study for his master’s in real estate law where he learned about Del Webb and the new retirement community concept that had been introduced. He knew then that if he lived near a Del Webb community when he retired, he wanted to live there in retirement.

Otis’ first opportunity in the insurance industry was with Continental Insurance where he stayed for over 15 years. He worked a few years for Phoenix Risk Services until they were acquired by Travelers Insurance and then went to work for AIG where he retired as a CPCU in 2016 after 38 years in the insurance industry.

Otis was always a hard worker. He worked his way through high school and college at Big Apple Grocery Store and took jobs in the summer tarring roofs and helping his Dad, an electrical engineer for Georgia Power Company. Traveling around Georgia with his Dad learning about generators and complex electrical systems were some of his best childhood memories. For his insurance career he moved to Cleveland, Chicago, and San Antonio then to Dallas, NYC, New Jersey and back to Dallas for the opportunity to run the World Source division of AIG.

Otis has two children: Thomas “Tom” and Margaret “Margie”. Otis and Ann Hicks married in 2016 in the park chapel of Yellowstone National Park. They were married by the park chaplain during a beautiful snow fall in May and lived in Frisco Lakes, a Del Webb Community since 2015. A place Otis deemed the “Double H Ranch”.

Odie made friends wherever he went whether it was riding motorcycles, watching a baseball game, shooting skeet, playing golf, fishing or just shopping for groceries. He never met a stranger. Otis helped numerous people throughout their careers in the insurance industry and was continuously grooming his replacement and those he knew would go far in the industry. He loved his grandsons and providing them with the educational tools needed for them to learn and grow in whatever they were interested in. From dinosaurs and telescopes to scientific magazines and play trucks that made lots of noise he loved the time he spent with them. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made in his name to Heifer International through this link: https://fundraise.heifer.org/OtisHatcherMemorial

Survivors include his wife, Ann Hicks of Frisco TX; his daughter Margaret “Margie” Leigh Hatcher Witham of Durham NC and her husband Shawn Witham; his sister Dee Ann Hatcher of Canton GA, his grandsons, Devin Hatcher and Weston Witham and his many family members throughout Georgia. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Hatcher, his parents, Otis W. Hatcher, Sr., Minnie Lee Rich Hatcher; his sister, Dovey Davis.
