The Wellington Leader
Paul Brewer, manager of the meat department of Lewis Grocery, collapsed at his work on Friday, April 26, and was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Joseph's Hospital. His death was attributed to a heart attack. Mr. Brewer
was 49 years of age, and he was one of the few men here who had spent his entire adult life with one business
firm. The only interruption of that association came during World War II, when he served in the Navy. Born in Wise County Sept. 17, 1913, he was only a small boy when he came here with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Brewer. He received his education in the Wellington schools, Paul Brewer was only a schoolboy, barely In his teens, when he began work for Lewis Grocery, doing the work that youth generally do at the beginning of a career. His loyalty, his hard work, and his aptitude for this business, so impressed his employers that he was
advanced until he eventually headed the meat department. Just, as he was devoted to his work, to his employers and to his firm, Mr. Brewer also won the devotion of those who worked with him, and of the thousands who had been his
customers through the years. There are many regular patrons who cannot remember when he was not associated with the store. Mr. Brewer was married to Miss Hazel1 Dickey on Dec. 22, 1935 at Altus, Okla. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge. Mr. Brewer is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Athen Lowrie, and a grandson, Kenneth Paul Lowrie of Lubbock; and a sister, Mrs. Roy McClure, also of Lubbock.
