Roy, as he preferred being called, was born July 29, 1917 in Paris, TX. He was the youngest of 8 children. After leaving home at an early age, he worked in the Hereford, TX area in the farming business, then joined the CCC and worked in the Flagstaff, AZ area. After the depression, he returned to Childress, TX and worked in road construction, and then for the railroad. In 1939, Roy married Cecil Priest in Childress, TX. He was drafted in December, 1942 and was trained as an equipment operator with the US Army Engineer Corps at Ft. Belvoir, VA and served in Germany until the end of WWII. After being discharged from the service as a Master Sergeant, he worked again for the Railroad in Childress, TX as a lineman. Roy and his family moved to Vernon, TX in 1949 where he worked as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic. In 1957, he started work at the W. T. Waggoner Ranch as a mechanic and worked there until retirement. After his wife's passing in July 2000, Roy moved to Wichita Falls, TX to be near his son and grandchildren. He enjoyed going to the Red Door in Wichita Falls for eight years and hated when he had to miss a day. He spent the last 15 months at the Sterling House Senior Living center in Wichita Falls where he made many friends. His hobbies were raising a garden and fishing.
Roy is survived by his son, Roy Anderson Horn and wife Patsy, his grandsons Russell Horn and Mike and wife Melissa Horn all of Wichita Falls. He has two great granddaughters, Jade and Mackenzie Horn, and one great grandson, Michael Horn.
