Raymond Armon Hancock was born 13 July 1906 in Purves, Erath County, Texas, was married to Ona Mathews at Wilson, Comanche County, Texas. Raymond owned and operated the grocery store at Purves with his father Jasper Newton Hancock from 1931 until 1940. He also farmed until his death, having cattle, turkeys, chickens and sheep. He was very active in the Methodist Church being superintendant for over 40 years, was song leader and taught Sunday School. He was also a community leader, being responsible for the endowment fund for the Pecan Cemetery. In 1975, with the help of his wife, Ona, his daughter, Ramona and input from many Purves "alumni", Raymond published the book "Purves, Erath County, Texas", a 296 page history of Purves and it's families with short stories of the life and times of the area. Mr. & Mrs. Hancock died from an automobile accident in Fort Worth, while returning from a trip to Oklahoma on May 9th, 1976. Ona was killed immediately and Raymond was in intensive care for 2 weeks with a broken neck before passing away on May 25th.

Ona was active in the United Methodist Women, having received a plaque for her efforts, was Communion Steward and membership secretary.

Children include: Robert Norman Hancock, Peggy June Hancock Traweek Forson Rusk, Ramona Lea Hancock Thompson, Martha Nell Hancock Starnes
