Robert Wilton Weathers was a son of William Herbert Weathers and Pearl Bradshaw. He was reared by his paternal grandparents, Elijah Enoch Weathers and Rhoda Nancy Dorcas Lee. He married Audrey Groves on 7 Aug 1934.
