Funeral services for Mrs Cara Fae Sanford-Boyd will be Saturday, July 13, 2013, at noon at the Arp High School Auditorium in Arp with the Rev. Oscar Madlock officiating. Interment will be in New Home Cemetery, Arp. Funeral services are under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, Henderson.
A beautiful baby girl, Cara Fae Sanford, entered this world on Oct. 29, 1933, to Bertha Fonza-Sanford and Anderson Sanford. She exited this world on Monday July 8, 2013, to continue her life in Glory.
She united with the New Home Baptist Church while she was very young. Being raised by loving, God-fearing parents, Bertha and Lucius Winkfield, in the Spring Chapel community, she also served faithfully at Spring Chapel CME Church. As she matured, she served all the churches she attended with joy.
She graduated from Arp Industrial School in 1950. She furthered her education at Prairie View A&M University, graduating with a degree in education. After beginning her teaching career, she received a master's degree in education from Stephen F. Austin State University.
She united in holy matrimony with Mr. Chester Boyd on Oct. 29, 1955, at the home of the Rev. Forest Franklin. To this union one child was born, Meshell Boyd.
She devoted her life to teaching. Her philosophy was to positively shape the minds of children, imparting her knowledge to their receptive minds. Her teaching career spanned 33 1/2 years of dedication at Boswell ISD in Oklahoma, and Ennis ISD, Fredonia ISD, Hillsboro ISD and her beloved Arp ISD. Since Mrs. Boyd was a graduate of Arp Industrial High School, employment at Arp ISD was like "Welcome back, Cara!"
Her spiritual education was earned while attending classes and traveling to various church-sponsored conferences and conventions. She was a faithful missionary, serving as vice president of the New Home Baptist Church's Missionary Department under the tutelage of Mrs. Juanita Hamilton. Recently, in January 2013, she accepted the position as the president of the Mission Society. She actively participated in the Longview District East Texas Association along with other organizations.

Her parents, Bertha Winkfield, Lucius Winkfield and Anderson Sanford; her brothers, B.A. Sanford, Preston Sanford, Roy Sanford; and her sisters, Beatrice Dennis, Ollie Gipson and Delphia Williams preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish and enjoy her memories a devoted husband, Chester Boyd; her daughter, Meshell Boyd; many nieces; many nephews; other relatives; former students, church associates and friends.
