GALVESTON — Olen James “Mac” McCutchen, 86, of Galveston, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Faith Memorial Nursing Home in Pasadena.
Mac was born in Gould, Oklahoma, on October 3, 1924. At an early age he enlisted in the US Marines during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. Mac worked as a senior accountant for the Galveston County Tax Office and also worked for many years on both the 61st and 91st Street Fishing Piers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling with his son, grandsons, and nephews. Mac was married at St. Patrick Catholic Church to Lilla Ricketts. After his conversion to the Catholic faith, he was very active in the church men’s club, St. Vincent de Paul, the Knights of Columbus #787 (3rd degree), and the Kirwin High School Boosters. Mac was most generous with his time and money.
Mac was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane McCutchen; parents, Roscoe and Lilly Mae McCutchen; stepmother, Georgia McCutchen; brothers, James and Conley; and sisters, Neva, Edna, and Martha.
He is survived by his wife, Lilla Ricketts McCutchen; son, Jim McCutchen and wife Gisella; grandsons, Sean McCutchen and Ian McCutchen and wife, Jennifer; great grandchildren, Connor and Sarah McCutchen; sisters, Jettie Lee Conley; and Opal Holmes and husband, James; and numerous nieces and nephews.
