Texas Ranger and Indian fighter, Walter Pope Callaway was born 14 Nov 1854 in Troup Co., GA to Martha Long and John Issac Callaway. He was married to Gilder Wright (1870-1946) and had one known daughter, Mary O'Bryan Callaway. W P served as Captain of the No. 1 Minute Men Co., of Kerr Co., TX. He was also a Private in Co. A Frontier Battalion of the Texas Rangers. His service injuries included total blindness in his right eye, partial blindness in his left eye, and loss of use in his right arm. Walter Pope Callaway died July 14, 1932 in Jefferson Davis Hospital in Houston, TX. He was buried the same day.
