Thomas married first Nancy Elizabeth 'Nannie' Watson, the daughter of Charles Samuel Watson and Martha Jane 'Mattie' Howell. They were married on 7 Oct 1902, and she died a year later, in childbirth. The child also died. Their burial sites are unknown.
