W/O George Rayford Pope (1892 - 1942)
Kate was born in Franklin County about 3 miles south of town to James Ferdinand Rogers and Alice Bertha Beall. Her mother died in 1912 and she had to take over the cooking, cleaning, washing and ironing and raising the garden. Even when her father re-married she still had to continue with these chores, getting very little help from her step-mother. So when she met my daddy it was easy to fall in love with him and get married at age 16.
She lived a long life, outliving 3 husbands. In 1993 when her last husband died she moved in with her son Glyn and his wife Ruth. Toward the end of her life she lived in an assisted living center for awhile and then went into a nursing home where she died just before her 101st birthday.
