Robert Leonard Nelson, 76, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 20, 2008.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Saturday at Southcliff Baptist Church with Dr. Carroll Marr officiating.
Interment: Barbee Cemetery in Dublin.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home.
Bob was born May 17, 1932, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Ella Pauline Johnson Nelson and Leonard John Nelson.
He served in the U.S. Air Force in Amarillo from 1952 to 1956 as an aircraft and engine instructor.
He met and married Barbara Joan Mott, mother of his sons, Brian L. and Ronald E. Nelson.
He had a lifelong interest in aviation, which served him well both in hobby and avocation. He held a commercial pilot's license. Bob built model airplanes all his life. He served as president of Experimental Aircraft Association, Dalworth Chapter 34, in 1979. His aviation career included technical and proposal writing for the major defense contractor, Lockheed Martin; he retired in 1997.
He and La Juana F. Joiner were married Dec. 3, 1994. He was a member of Southcliff Baptist Church. Bob's belief in God carried him through good and bad times during his lifetime. He loved other people's sense of humor, most notably his wife, La Juana. He loved traveling and always seeking new adventures.
Bob was preceded in death by both parents; brother, Daniel E. Nelson; and first wife, Barbara Joan Nelson.
Survivors: Wife, La Juana Nelson; sons, Brian L. Nelson and wife, Kerri, and Ronald E. Nelson and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Matt, Jenn, Emily and Kyle Nelson; brother, Wilton "Willie" E. Nelson and wife, Wendy; stepsons, Richard and Michael Joiner; and several nieces and nephews.
