HENDERSON — Services for William S. "Bill" Powers, age 78, of Lake Cherokee, will be 4 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2011, at Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Henderson.
Burial will follow in the Crims Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Powers died Saturday, May 21, 2011, in a Tyler hospital.
Bill was born July 25, 1932, in Schulenburg, Texas, to Ernest and Ruth Powers. He was a graduate of Carthage High School, where he was in their first 4H club. He was a graduate of Texas A&M and was a landman for Texas Utilities. Bill was also a member of the Trinity Baptist Church, a lifetime cattleman and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
With his caring, compassion and humbleness, he touched many lives with his generosity. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. Bill was a jokester and loved to make people laugh.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Keith Weaver.
He is survived by his wife, Avis Powers of Lake Cherokee; daughters, Debbie Ochoa of Fairplay, Tammy Griffith of Clayton, Sandy Rimsky and husband, Paul, of Clayton and Kathy Weaver and Antonio Hernandez of Lake Cherokee; sister, Sharon Strother and husband, Bill, of Dallas; brother, Jack Powers and wife, Peggi, of Henderson; grandchildren, Stormy Shelton, Mandy Davis, Mark Ochoa, Ricky Ochoa, Carly McPherson, Cody Herren, Kaycee McKnight, Michael Rimsky and Jacob Rimsky; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
Pallbearers will be Mark Ochoa, Ricky Ochoa, Cody Herren, Bobby Holland, Gaylon White and Wayne Holland. Honorary pallbearer will be Bo Brevard.
The family will meet friends 6-8 p.m. today, May 26, 2011, at the funeral home.
