Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p m. Friday, in First Methodist Church, for Floyd William Belscamper, 62, who died of a heart attack at his home here early Wednesday morning. James B Totten & Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be in the Electra cemetery. His death was quite unexpected. He was on duty as usual at the post office, Tuesday.
The deceased was born in Lancaster, Wisconsin, on Dec 3. 1892, and resided in Kansas, Iowa and Missouri prior to World War One.
He volunteered for service in the US Army in 1911, serving with a Kansas unit until 1914. At the outbreak of World War One he again volunteered for service on May 3, 1917, and was assigned to duty with the same Field Artillery unit of the 35th Division with Harry Truman who later became president of the United States. His unit along with Mr. Truman's outfit trained at Fort Sill, Okla. prior to going overseas with the American Expeditionary Forces where they saw combat duty. He received his discharge on May 19, 1919.
He was married to Miss Emily Rozell at Butler, Mo. In 1917 before he went overseas with the AEF. They came to Electra from Iowa Park in 1927 and he accepted a position as clerk in the Electra Post Office on Oct 16, 1931. He received his appointment as assistant to Postmaster W.P. Slaton on April 16, 1954.
Mr Belscamper was a member of the Masonic orders including the Blue Lodge and the Shrine chapter. He has been a member of the Electra veterans organizations and served as an officer in the American Legion. His genial disposition endeared him to his coworkers and neighbors and he was beloved by all who knew him.
Survivors include his widow; a son, F.W. Belscamper Jr., Hobbs, N.M.; a daughter, Mrs. Valerie Sheldon, wife of Major Charles Perry of the US Air Force at Brooks Field, San Antonio; a brother, Earl Belscamper, Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Melvin Johnson, Galva, Ill.; three granddaughters, Judy and Sue Lynn Sheldon and Becky Belscamper.
All of the above named will be present for the funeral services. Mrs. Belscamper's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Graves of Mena, Ark, and another sister, Mrs Paul Davis of Wichita, Kans., arrived Thursday to be with the grief stricken family , and attend the rites._
