US Congressman. He was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, became a sailor, and served as commander of the privateer "Yankee" during the War of 1812. After the war he became active in the shipping business and settled in Eastport, Maine, serving in the Maine House of Representatives from 1825 to 1826, and on the Governor's Council from 1827 to 1836. In the late 1830s Pilsbury began a westward migration, living in Ohio and New Orleans before settling on a farm in Brazoria, Texas. He served in the Republic of Texas House of Representatives from 1840 to 1841 and Senate in 1842. He then served as Chief Judge of the Brazoria County Court and county Probate Judge before returning to the Texas Senate in 1845. When Texas entered the Union Pilsbury was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Democrat, serving one partial term and one full one, March 1846 to March 1849. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1848, and lived in retirement on his farm. His son Edward Pilsbury (1824-1882) served as Mayor of New Orleans from 1876 to 1878.
