Newel Veasey was an infant when his mother died at age 26 of an infection after picking a blemish on her face. From family accounts and oral genealogy taped with brother Coy Veasey, the mother fell ill and died within about a week's time. There was some speculation that Newel contracted an infection also from nursing his sick mother. In any case, Newel survived his mother by about six weeks.
This marker was purchased by brother Coy Veasey long after his baby brother's death. Coy searched the court house for records, but nothing was recorded on the birth date. Coy estimated the birth month from memory, but the marker was set 50 years or more after the baby's death. The date of death was found recorded in Franklin County vital records.
