Shirley Ann SHEFFIELD

Fairview Cemetery
Cooke County,
Texas

Shirley Ann Muller Sheffield, born September 13, 1936 to Francis and Elsie Muller in Shenandoah, Iowa, went to her Heavenly Home on May 23, 2017 in Lantana, Texas. Shirley resided in Gainesville, Texas and Denton, Texas during the final years of her life.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Elsie and Francis Muller; her husband, Harold E. ”Sheff” Sheffield; and her son-in-law, Reza Sabzghabaei. She is survived by a sister, Ervene Nothwehr of Sedalia, Missouri; her daughter, Lorri Sabzghabaei of Denton, Texas; her son and daughter-in-law, John and Debi Sheffield of Mineral Wells, Texas; her grandson, Daniel Sabzghabaei of Baltimore, Maryland and her granddaughter and husband, Natalie and Richard Garcia of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; also several nieces and nephews.

Shirley spent all of her growing up years in the tiny farming community of Yorktown, Iowa. A lifelong Lutheran, she was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown in 1950. She graduated from Clarinda High School and attended Iowa State University. She married Lawrence Nothwehr in December of 1955 and later divorced. Two children came from that union: Lorri and John. In December of 1962 she married Harold Sheffield. Traveling with the military, the family moved to many states finally ending up in Gainesville, Texas. Shirley and Sheff were charter members of and very instrumental in starting a new Lutheran church in Gainesville called Faith Lutheran which remains today.

Shirley loved to ride horses and help her “Daddy” on the farm when she was a youngster. She loved music and took after her Mother, Elsie, singing in numerous weddings and funerals during her lifetime.

She was a great cook and we, her family, will miss her Cream Puffs. Shirley had a flair for decorating and always had a very beautiful, gracious home. She spent most of her adult life working as a realtor. She was plagued with poor health for much of her life but always tried to keep a positive ”this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it” attitude.
