Charles Edward Hughes was born February 25, 1925 in Richmond, Virginia and died September 22, 2014 in League City, Texas. He married Mary Franklin on September 8, 1948 in Richmond, Virginia. He is survived by their five children (and their spouses): Gary (Elise) Hughes, Cathy (Joe) Loflin, Doug (Angela) Hughes, Lee Beverley (Robert) Haines and Beth (Jim) Waguespack. He leaves behind 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Ed served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and saw service in Italy, France and Germany. After College he was hired by Motors Insurance Corporation, which was part of General Motors, and worked in Richmond, VA, New Orleans, LA, and Dallas, Texas. He retired in 1983 after over 33 years with GM as the Dallas office manager. He and Mary built their retirement home at Lake Kiowa where they enjoyed golf, bridge, travel and volunteering at the Gainesville Memorial Hospital.

Mary died in 1999 and Ed with the family established a scholarship fund with the North Central Texas College Foundation to assist students with their educational needs.

Services will be held at St Mary’s Catholic Church 825 N. Weaver in Gainesville at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27th with Father Gary Picou officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Meador-Clement-Keel Funeral Home.
