Fairview Cemetery
Cooke County,
Texas

Ima Jean Inez Holley Smith was born on September 11, 1927 to Ray and Teresa Holley in Gainesville, Texas. She passed away peacefully on April 26, 2017 at the age of 89. Ima Jean worked on the family farm south of Gainesville and graduated from GHS in 1946. She moved to Ft. Worth, Texas and worked at J.C. Penney until the love of her life, Paul E.(Eddie) Smith, returned from the war and persuaded her to move back to Gainesville and marry him. They wed on July 3, 1948. Sixty-eight years together followed. During those years they raised two children, Nancy and Warren.

Ima Jean was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She loved to cook and sew. She was one of the best seamstresses in Gainesville. She made garments for others, as well as her family. Her pies were the first to go at church bizarres and dinners. Ima Jean and her sisters made candy each Christmas and everyone around wanted to share the results. Her peanut brittle was legendary. She could sell over 100 pounds each year.

Ima Jean loved being outdoors as well. She loved working in her yard. She helped her father-in-law maintain a blackberry farm and sold their crops each year. She and Eddie raised a 10 acre garden, and she picked and canned what they grew.

Over the years, Ima Jean worked at O'Brien's Hardware, The Fabric House, and Bomber Bait. She also volunteered at the hospital in the gift shop for many years after she retired. She was a hard worker, a great people-person, and made everyone around her feel special.

Ima Jean joined Whaley UMC when she and Eddie married. She was a faithful and very active member until her recent decline in health kept her from attending. She loved her church and each of its members.

Ima Jean is preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Eddie Smith, her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy & Steve Brammer, and her son Warren Smith. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Matt Brammer and sons, Gavin and Garrison, Beth and Jared Robinson and their children, Blakely and Smith. She leaves behind one brother, Dwight Holley and his wife Helen. She will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews, as well.

A memorial service for Mrs. Smith will be held at Whaley United Methodist Church on Friday, April 28, at 10:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life reception at Whaley UMC fellowship hall. A private graveside for immediate family at Fairview Cemetery will precede the memorial service. Arrangements are under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
