Esther Faye Murray Smith, was born October 21, 1919 in Sherman, Texas to Ora Belle and Earl Murray.

Her father, a World War I veteran, was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. As result, she traveled with her family to a variety of USPS assignments in Texas, Illinois and Oklahoma.

She attended college in Sherman, Texas before she met and married J. F. Tex Smith of Grand Prairie.

She lived in Grand Prairie during World War II before moving to Dallas where she was a Methodist Medical Center Pink Lady.

She had been active in the Scottish Rite Ladies Auxiliary.

She traveled extensively across the U.S., including Alaska, and Canada with her husband in their motor coaches.

She had been active in cattle ranching.

In 1975, she and her husband received the Texas Lone Star Farmer of the Year award for their work with 4-H and F.F.A. clubs at the Bull Pine Ranch in Clarksville.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Tex Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Robert Wise; daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Col (ret) Albert Hokins; four grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, Tuesday at the West/Hurtt funeral home, DeSoto.

Services will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday at the funeral home followed by burial at Hillcrest Cemetery with Rev. Kathy Forschner and Rev. Clay Allard officiating.

Pallbearers will be members of the Dallas County Sheriffs Posse.
