LA MARQUE-Norman Close was born July 08, 1933 to James and Joel Close in Galveston, Texas. He graduated from Central High School in 1951 and was known affectionately as the greatest drummer to come out of Central High.

Norman was faithful member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church serving on both the Ushers Board and Brotherhood until his health failed. He loved to travel aboard on cruises at least every three months with his wife, Nettie.

Norman worked for the Chocolate Bayou Plant, owner of Close Family Daycare and was a retired seaman with the Merchant Marines and served his country with honor in the US Army from 1953 to 1956.

Norman was cared for by his loving and devoted niece and sister, Carlene Ward and Arlene Close until he departed this life for his heavenly home Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at his residence in La Marque, TX.

Norman was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nettie Close and parents.

Norman leaves cherished memories with his loving sisters, Etta Butler, Delores Harris, Arline Close and Emily Close Ward; devoted niece, Carlene Close Ward; honorary son, Quincy Ward; stepchildren, Curtis Gillis (Diane) and Teri Guillory; step grandchildren, Tiffany and Dee; devoted friends, Hansen Mills and Joe Mitchell and a host of extended family and friends.

A visitation will begin at 12:00 PM on Friday, January 15, 2016, followed by funeral service at 1:00 PM at Galilee Baptist Church. Entombment will be held in Grace Memorial Park Mausoleum.
