LA MARQUE — Lillie Mae (Chaney) Woodworth, 78, surrendered to the Lord on Tuesday, September 11, 2007, after a courageous battle. She passed away at home at 2:22 p.m. with her family by her side.

Lillie, better known as “Mae” to many, was born July 31, 1929, in Lloydbridge, Louisiana to Floyd and Mary Euell. She was united in marriage to Hamp “Ben” Chaney who preceded her in death. Through this union five children were born. She later married Eddie Woodworth, Sr. Her porch and door were always open to visitors. She was a loving person with a distinct voice, up front nature, great laugh, and desire to help others. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, and had an exceptional cooking ability, including making homemade boudain. After 30 years of service, she retired from UTMB, where she worked in the lab. Lillie Mae was a willing servant of the Lord at the Sunlight Baptist Church serving on the Usher board, Deaconess Board, and with Mission II.

Lillie Mae was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; three sisters, and two half sisters.

She is survived by her husband of twenty-three years, Eddie Woodworth, Sr., of La Marque, Texas; two sons, Hamp Chaney, Jr. (Carol C.C.) of La Marque, Texas; Leroy Chaney (Judy) of Houston, Texas; three daughters, Irma Jean Francois Chaney (James); Augustine Chaney Ford (Tim), and Joyce Marie Chaney, all of Galveston; ten grandchildren, Vickie; Felicia; Keith; LaTresha; Leon Jr.; Aisha; Akilah; Jamila; Sean, and Ken; nine great-grandchildren, Daisha; Deaira; Keira; Jatyana; Mehkel; Nicholas; Lil Keith; Kenetra, and Jade; brother, L.B. Euell (Estella) of Houston, Texas; sister, Ida Courtney of Long Beach, California; sisters-in-law, Mattie Berrell; Bertha Gaines; Alice Mae Chaney; Ellen Chaney Pitre (Arvenel); brothers-in-law, Frank Woodworth and Tom Chaney (Mary); devoted nieces, Elnora Kitchen; Mary Catherine Smith (Charlie); Diana Deyon (Aaron); Deborah Harris; Glennys Harris, and Winda Ann Antoine (Tim); devoted friends, Theresa Brooks, Mary Douglas, Corine Joshua, Velma Mitchell, Tishie B. Crear, Ethel Lee Walter, and a host of other family and friends who loved her dearly.

Special thanks go to Dr. Nancy Hughes; Dr. M. Willis; Dr. Beach; 6B and 9C staff of UTMB.; her nurses; the Hospice Care Team; Pinky Rowe, and Fayerene Curry.

Viewing will begin at 4 p.m., today, September 14, 2007, followed by a wake from 7-8 p.m. at E.R. Johnson Family Mortuary. A service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 15, 2007, at Sunlight Baptist Church with Pastor A.C. Tryon officiating.

Entombment will follow at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, TX.

LA MARQUE — Eddie L. Woodworth, Sr., 81, received his call to join his wife, Lillie into eternal rest on Friday, September 14, 2007, at UTMB Hospital.

Eddie was born July 31, 1926, in Woodville, Texas to the union of E.G. and Lula Slater Woodworth. He attended school in Woodville and later joined the U. S. Army, from which he was honorable discharged. Eddie began his employment in the lumbers mills of Woodville. He moved to Galveston in 1946, and gain employment with ILA Local 329. While with the local he served as the finance treasurer and foreman before his retirement. Eddie was a faithful member of the Sunlight Baptist church, where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, in the Brotherhood and Sunday school, and also as church treasurer. He was a 32nd Scottish Rite mason with Greater Galveston Lodge #415 AF&AM, serving faithfully for 31 years as secretary. He also was a member of the Keystone #16 Royal Arch Mason; Turner Lodge of Perfection #8; Swain Knights of Templar #8; Dixon Consistory # 21, and Gulf Coast Shiners # 4.

He was preceded in death also by his parents, brothers, Woodrow and Bubba Woodworth and Paul Slater.

He leaves with cherished memories, sons, Errol L. Woodworth (Winifred) of Haywood, California; Eddie L. Woodworth, Jr. (Karen) of La Marque, and Jerrell Woodworth of Houston; daughters, Lisa Woodworth of Texas City; Jo Ann Harris; Lois Woodworth, and Michaela Brown (Donald Hayes) all of Galveston; brother, Frank Woodworth (Wanda) of Texas City; sister, Mattie Lou Burrell (Lonnie) of Houston; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; five stepchildren; extended families are the Woodworth’s of Conroe, Slater’s of Dickinson and the Burrell’s of Houston; host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Viewing will begin at 4 p.m., today, September 18th, followed by a wake from 7-8 p.m. at E.R. Johnson Family Mortuary. A service celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at Sunlight Baptist Church with Pastor A.C. Tryon officiating. Entombment will follow at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, TX.
