A 14-year-old Borger youth was shot and killed last night about 8:30 o'clock in the home of a friend whose parents had left early in the day for Temple to undergo examinations at the clinic there. The dead youth, Jimmy Harris, was killed at the Luther Brock home, 621 Deahl, by a shot from a revolver which Larry Brock, 15, said discharged accidentally while he was holding the gun in his hand.

According to the Hutchinson County Sheriff-s Department, the parents of the Brock boy left instructions for him to spend the night with Jimmy Harris and his mother, Mrs. Sylvia Harris.

The two boys decided to spend part of the evening at the Brock home, and just prior to the fatal incident were watching television and examining a .38 calibre revolver which the two boys had owned jointly for several months.

According to young Brock's statement, the Harris boy had just hung up the telephone after inviting a friend to come over, when the revolver in Brock's hand accidentally discharged. The bullet struck young Harris in the head.

When the friend of the two boys arrived at the scene a few minutes later, he stated that Brock was bent over the chair supporting Harris' motionless body, hysterically crying and trying to revive him. The boys then notified the sheriff's department.

The Brock and Harris boys had been close friends and almost constant companions, prior to the shooting.

Results of the preliminary investigation conducted last night by the Hutchinson County Sheriff's Department and District Attorney Bob Gallaway, revealed evidence tending to confirm the general pattern of Brock's story. However, no official coroner's decision has yet been rendered, and the investigation will be continued, according to Sheriff Hugh Anderson.

The Harris boy's body is resting at the Minton Funeral Home, where services are pending.
