R.D. Morrison passed away on Monday, May 19, 2014, in Borger, Texas.

R.D. was born October 12, 1925 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Roy Daniel Morrison and Annie Ruth Scott. He grew up in Honey Grove, Texas and moved to Borger in 1943 and his first job was with L. O. Stocker Construction Company pouring concrete for the units at the Alamo Refinery.

On his eighteenth birthday he was drafted into the Army taking his basic training at Camp Fannin near Tyler, Texas. In January 1945 he was shipped overseas landing at Le Havre, France. He saw active duty in the 89th Infantry (the Rolling W) and was only 75 miles from Berlin when V E day came. He remained in Germany and France helping to rehabilitate POW's getting them ready to come home.

R.D. received his honorable discharge in 1946 and returned to Borger. He went to work for Phillips Petroleum Company at the same Refinery where he poured so much concrete, working there 38 and a half years in the stock department. He retired July 1st, 1985. After retirement he spent ten years volunteering doing general maintenance for the Hutchinson County Historical Museum. The Texas State Historical Commission honored him with a Volunteer of the Year Award in 1997. He then transferred his skills and did the maintenance for his church First United Methodist for another ten years.

R.D. was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Sons of Confederate Veterans – Plemons Shelby Camp of Amarillo.

R.D. is survived by his wife Cleo, daughter Donna Parker and husband Larry of Borger and one son Gary of the home. His grandchildren Justin Parker and wife Amanda of Amarillo, Ceria Fisher and husband Andrew of Dalhart, Mike Parker and wife Jennifer of Amarillo, and Jason Parker and wife Rebecca of Olustee, OK. His great grandchildren are Salem and Colten Parker, Drew and Kenadee Fisher, Breanna Lemery and Lane Parker. He has one sister Melvis Ann Longstreth of Las Vegas, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and one brother Raymond.

Visitation will be from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Brown Funeral Directors.

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church in Borger with Reverend Johnny Robertson and Reverend Pam Lehman officiating.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Morrison, Larry Parker, Justin Parker, Mike Parker, Andrew Fisher, Colton Parker, Drew Fisher, Jason Parker, and Lane Parker.

Memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church (air conditioning fund) 200 North McGee Street, Borger, and Texas 79007.

Cleo Morrison passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020 in Borger, Texas.

Cleo is survived by her daughter, Donna Parker and husband Larry of Borger and a son, Gary , of the home.

Her grandchildren are: Ceri Fisher and husband Andrew of Dalhart, Justin Parker and wife Amanda of Amarillo, Mike Parker and wife Jennifer of Woodland Park, Colorado, and Jason Parker and wife Rebecca of Olustee, Oklahoma.

Her great grandchildren are: Salem and Colten Parker, Drew and Kenadee Fisher, Taryn and Ian Parker, Breanna Lemery and Lane Parker.

Cleo was preceded in death by her husband, father and mother, one brother and four sisters.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Morrison, Larry Parker, Justin Parker, Mike Parker, Andrew Fisher, Colten Parker, Drew Fisher, Ian Parker, Jason Parker, and Lane Parker.

Due to the Covid Pandemic, the Family has requested a Private Family Service.

Born 9 January 1932, Lawson Union County, Arkansas. Moved to Joinerville, Rusk County, and Texas February 1932. Attended Gaston elementary school first through fourth grade. Gaston was the largest rural school in the world at that time with 1200 students.

September 1941 moved to Jena, LaSalle Parish, Louisiana attended the fifth and sixth grades there. Moved to Ruston, Lincoln Parish, Louisiana attended the seventh grade there.

31 July 1944 moved to Borger, Hutchinson County, Texas entered West Ward elementary school in the eighth grade. Entered Borger High School in September 1945 and graduated with the class of 1949. The first class to graduate from the "New High School" on West First Street. I have attended Frank Phillips College over the years doing "continuing education classes" but have not earned a degree.

Married R.D. Morrison 19 November 1949 in Clovis Curry County, New Mexico. First child daughter Donna Mary was born on 21 November 1951 and son Gary Leigh on 7 May 1953. Joined First Methodist Church June 1955. The whole family being baptized by the Rev. Lloyd V. Hamilton. Taught several different Sunday School Classes the the primary department.

Became South Neighborhood Chairman for the Quivira Girl Scout Council for three years. At the time it involved seven schools and had more leaders and scouts than all the rest of district I,II,& III combined. Served as Brownie leader for troop 121 for three years. Also gave equal time to the Cub Scouts, 1958, 1959, 1960, and 1961.

Served in several offices for Weatherly P.T.A. as well as President for the years 1964-1966. Belonged to TOPS International serving in several different offices in the organization.

Joined Bluebonnet Extension Homemakers in 1974 and served as President, Vice President and Treasurer. Served as Chairman for the County Council Extension Homemakers Clubs 1982-1984.

Started working with my family genealogy 31 July 1978. Belong to the Hutchinson County Genealogical Society and the Amarillo Genealogy Society, and the Arkansas County Historical Society in Arkansas.

Joined Josiah Bartlett Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution in 1980 with four proven Revolutionary Ancestors. Served as Secretary for four years, Regent for four years and presently the Registrar entering my 10th term (20 years).

Joined Daughters of the Republic of Texas in 1981, High Plains Chapter served as Historian, Vice President, and President. I now belong to the Palo Duro Chapter DRT in Amarillo. I am now serving as marker chairman for the Daughter of the Republic of Texas Palo Duro Chapter. I have been involved in the placing of five "Citizen of the Republic Medallions" on the graves of pioneer citizens. I have also researched my Republic Ancestors nine of them placing them in the Republic as early as 1838 Bowie County. As of this date I have the most proven number of ancestors of any one in the Daughters of the Republic Society.

Joined the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1982, M.F. Maury Chapter and I am a "Real Granddaughter" two of my grandfathers being in the Confederate Veteran. I have served a President and Treasurer.

Joined Daughters of the American Colonist Alibates Chapter in 1989. I have served as Colonial Heritage Chairman. Joined Colonial Dames XVII Century Daniel Wing Chapter serving as librarian and delegate to the Genealogical Advisory Board for the Amarillo Public Library.

Served as vice-president for Forum for two years and served another four years as board member (Forum is a board that manages the Library Club Room at the Hutchinson County Library).

Appointed to the Hutchinson County Historical Commission in January 1989, did extensive research on the Cemeteries of Hutchinson County. Published a book "Cemeteries of Hutchinson County, Texas 1901-1986." Polly Wheeler as co-author and gave 30 hard copies to major libraries through-out the United States, including two copies to the National Archives, DAR and LDS libraries. The book was updated after ten years with the help of my husband. "20th CENTURY BURIALS OF HUTCHINSON COUNTY, TEXAS 1903-2000". My sister Charlene Ferrell and I co-authored a companion book to the first book called "Persons That Died and In Hutchinson County But buried Elsewhere." (This book is unique in the fact that the records are from the actual death certificates located in the Office of the County Clerk). I have served as Historical Marker Chairman for 20 years and have place 14 Historical Markers through out Hutchinson County. Antelope Creek Focus and the Plemons Bridge are on the National Register of Historic places. Received the Texas State Volunteer of the Year Award in 1995 (only two given that year). Helped the Hutchinson county Museum receive seven Distinguished Service Awards from 1991-1997. Served on the Museum board of Trustees for eight years.

In 1990-1991 recorded 1627 servicemen that served in World War II from Hutchinson County. The next year a book of records of servicemen from World War I , Korea, Vietnam and the Gulf War was complied and both books containing servicemen from all wars including the War between the states is located in the Archive of Hutchinson County Historical Museum.

Was elected "Woman of the Year" in 1991 by the Hutchinson County Extension Homemakers. I have been named Hutchinson County Historical Museum Volunteer of the year twice once in 1991 with 1009 volunteer hours and again in 2009 for Historical preservation.

Joined the first Families of Mississippi in 1992.my Trimble, Chaney, Chambliss families settling on the Natchez Trace in the 1790's.

My sister Charlene and I transcribed and published the 1900, 1910, & 1920 Census of Hutchinson County. (This was before it was available on the Internet).

In 1994 received the COMMUNITY BUILDER AWARD presented by Adobe Walls Masonic Lodge #1355. Appointed in 1997 by Dr. David Jones as Church Historian/Archivist for the First United Methodist Church in Borger. I have served eight years as a member of the Archive and History Committee for the Northwest Texas Conference of Methodist Churches.

Computerizing the Cemetery Records of Hutchinson County has been a priority taking me 14 1/2 years to accomplish it. Special attention has been given to listing of the veteran's burials in our county, as of June 2000 there are 1584 veterans on my list. Joined the American Legion Auxiliary in 1998. Working with the American Legion Men's division have placed Military Markers on 23 Veterans in Highland Park Cemetery. I do the paper work and the Legion Post pays for the installation, these men have no family to file for their marker for them). Some of these Veterans graves have gone unmarked as long as seventy-one years.

Three Military markers two for my grandfather's and one for a great grandfather were placed on their graves with special dedication services for each of them. William Beason Elliott in Fairfield, Texas Cemetery for service in the Confederacy and Citizen of the Republic. James Wilson McGraw in Gillett, Arkansas for the service in the Confederacy. The third one for John Sutton Petty in Cass County, Texas for service in the Mexican War, Confederacy and Citizen of the the Republic.

In 2002 Received Distinguished Service Award from Women's Forum in Amarillo.

In 2006 made application for Military Markers for two Revolutionary Soldiers Peter Groseclose Sr. and Peter Groseclose, Jr. placing the markers on their graves in the Sharon Lutheran Cemetery in Ceres, Bland County, Virginia. A Special Dedication Service was done by Josiah Bartlett Chapter DAR of Borger, Texas (The Groseclose Revolutionary Soldiers are the Ancestors of my husband R.D.).

In 2009 application was made to the Texas State Historical Commission to get the HISTORIC CEMETERY DESIGNATION for our three one hundred year old cemeteries. Lieb, Holt and Plemons. (All three received this designation and are so recorded in the county clerk's office as well as with the Texas Historical Commission in Austin.

With the help of a friend Waunell Murphy we have inventoried and put artifacts in preservation order in Archive #1 (It took one year and 12 to 15 hours per week).

With the help of Wanda Guinn we are submitting one of my classmates name in nomination (Dr. William Beryl West) for the newly created Wall of Honor at Borger High School.
