WHEELER - Lee Royce Atherton, 46, formerly of Wheeler, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, in Princeton.
Services were at 3 p.m. Tuesday in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Farmersville with Keith Richins, elder, officiating. Additional services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Wheeler First Baptist Church with Dr. Toby Henson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors.
Mr. Atherton was born March 9, 1956, in Wheeler, to Darville E. and Sammie Lee Dougherty Atherton. He attended Briscoe School grades first through 11th and graduated from Wheeler High School in 1974.
On March 25, 1995, he married his sweetheart, Debra Johnson, in Dallas. He worked in the oilfield in the Wheeler area for several years after graduating. He spent five years in Ecuador working for Parker Drilling Co.
He continued working in the oilfield after he returned to the states. Then he began a career as a telecommunications technician. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Farmersville. He will be greatly missed by friends and family.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Arville Dean Atherton in 1967.
Survivors include his wife; his parents of Wheeler; and two brothers, Russell Atherton and Michael Atherton, both of Wheeler.
The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church of Wheeler.
