Golda Grainger McIlhany, 98, died Wednesday, February 11, 1987.
Services were held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, February 14, in the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Mike Struve, pastor, and Rev. Ernie McGaughey, Methodist pastor of Tulia, officiated. Burial was in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home.
Mrs. McIlhany, born at Bonham, was married to Mortimer in 1915 at Fort Worth. He died in 1945. She was a graduate of Southwest Texas State Normal College in San Marcos. She moved to Wheeler County in 1916. She taught school at Wheeler until 1920 when she and her husband opened a grocery store and, in 1921, a dry goods store. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and taught Cecilia Mann Sunday school class for 50 years. She was a longtime member of General Federated Women's Club serving as officer on the local and district level.
Survivors include a son, Judge Grainger McIlhany of Wheeler; a daughter, Dr. Mary Lou McIlhany of Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Alma Grainger of Comanche; three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Richard Brown, Jim Montgomery, Larry Porton, Louis Stas, Paul Topper, Lavon Williams.
Honorary pallbearers were Tom Britt, Harold Nash, Loyd Lee, Bill Wiley, Jess Moore, Grady Dodd, Gordon Stiles, John C. Vise, Max Wiley, James Verden, Joe Rogers, Ed Riley, Lyndon Sims, N.L. Sechrist, Harold Kenady, Harrison Hall, Leon Fillingim, Terrell Gunter, Bill Atherton.
Memorials may be to First United Methodist Church or Texas Head Injury Foundation, 222 Gessner Rd., Houston, TX, 77024.
