WHEELER - Eddie John Pannell, 91, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Wheeler First Baptist Church with the Rev. Toby Henson, pastor, officiating. Burial with Masonic graveside rites will be in Wheeler Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Mr. Pannell was born in Sallisaw, Okla. In 1928 he moved to Wheeler County and farmed near the Briscoe community until 1951. He moved in 1953 to Skellytown, where he worked at Skelly Oil Co. He retired in 1973 and returned to Wheeler.

He was a member of the Berean Sunday school class and had served as deacon of the First Baptist Church. He was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Pannell married Gladys Standridge in 1928 at Sallisaw. He was preceded in death by three children, Betty Dean Pannell, in 1933; Freddie Pannell, in 1949; and Dortha Calcote in 2000.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Imogene Murray of Childress; a son, Eddie John Pannell Jr. of Briscoe; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church of Wheeler; Meals on Wheels; or the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Pannell was married to Eddie John Pannell and had moved to Wheeler County in 1928. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Wheeler.

Survivors include a son, Eddy John Pannell Jr. of Briscoe; a daughter, Imogene Murray of Childress; six grandchildren; eight great-granchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Meals on Wheels.
