WHEELER — Susana Salazar, 55, of Wheeler died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, in Wheeler.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in United Methodist Church in Wheeler with Eddie Sapon, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Wheeler Cemetery. Arrangements are by Peppers Family Funeral Home of Wheeler.

Susana was born May 24, 1957, in Durango, Mexico, to Antonio Retana and Petra Salazar. She came to the United States in search of a better life at the age of 27. Shortly thereafter, she obtained her citizenship and began her new life in Wheeler. She was known for her strength, independence and passion for work.

Susana enjoyed cooking, spending time with her daughters and grandchildren and helping others in any way she could. She was the rock to a very large family and will be deeply, deeply missed. She was employed by Britt Ranch for more than 25 years, McDonald's for more than 15 years and Wheeler Banking Center.

Susana was preceded in death by her father.

Survivors include four daughters, Erika Gonzalez of Dallas and Cristi Gonzalez, Veronica Salazar and Sara Salazar, all of Wheeler; five grandchildren, Jesus Mendoza, Juan Perez, Jasmine Perez, Josh Sigala and Marlene Bayton, all of Wheeler; her mother; a brother; four sisters and many nieces and nephews.
