Joann Stephenson Austin, 80, of Littlefield, entered into eternal life Thursday, February 28, 2019 in Littlefield, surrounded by her family. She was born March 30, 1938 in Mullins, Texas to Zethra Brantley "Z.B." and Willie Lois (Neal) Stephenson.
Joann graduated from Anton High School in 1956. She married the love of her life, Ray Austin, December 19, 1957 in Anton, Texas. The young couple then moved to Littlefield where they began their life together. Ray and Joann had two sons, Mickey Ray and Larry Bob. In 1974, Joann became the Library Director for the Lamb County Library, and in the 1980's she helped establish the Olton branch of the library. Joann and Ray were charter members of the Church of Littlefield which was later named Praise Temple Church, which is presently known as the Trinity Church in Littlefield. Joann was well known for her dry wit and her faith and love for her God. Her family was the loves of her life, and her greatest desire was to see them receive Christ as their Savior. She found great joy in sending cards to family and friends who needed a word of encouragement.
Joann is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ray Austin of Littlefield; a son, Larry Austin and wife Stacy of Childress; brother, Bob Stephenson and wife Sue of Hewlett, TX; two grandchildren, Anthony and Laurice of Childress; three nephews; and one a special niece. She is also survived by two children of the heart, Chuck Dickerson and wife Mitzi of Littlefield; and other extended family members. Joann was preceded in death by her son Mickey Ray Austin in 1998; and her parents.
