Frank D. Walker Rites Saturday In Wheeler

Frank D. Walker, Sr., 91, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 1992.

Services were 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church, Rev. Weldon Rives, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home.

Mr. Walker, born in Jolly, married Iris Russell in 1928 at Miami, Texas. She died in 1972. He had lived in Wheeler County since 1950. He was a lifetime rancher. He married Mary Bethany in Amarillo in 1973, he became a member of the Masonic Lodges in Mobeetie, Miami and Wheeler. He was past master of the Mobeetie and Miami lodges. He joined the Order of the Easter [sic] Star in 1926 and had been a member of the Mobeetie, Miami, Canadian and Wheeler chapters, where he had served as worthy patron of each chapter.

Mr. Walker had served as scout master of the Wheeler Boy Scout Troop for several years. He was a member of the Adobe Walls executive and advisory boards for 17 years. He was also a member of the Order of the Arrow and received the Silver Beaver Award, he had served on committees in the Red River and Buffalo Wallow districts. He was an honorary member of the Wheeler 4-H and Future Farmers of America Clubs. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War I, serving in the submarine division. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he served on several boards.

Pallbearers were Gary Davis, Jim Jackson, Jim Lewallen, Jim Montgomery, Walter Simmons, Jack Sparlin.

Honorary pallbearers were other members of Wheeler, Miami and Mobeetie Masonic Lodges.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Frank Walker, Jr., of Santa Fe, N.M.; four sisters, May Cunningham of Henrietta, Mildred Cunningham of Miami, Mrs. Kent Philpott of Pampa and Dorothy Airhart of California; two grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Mrs. Inis Mildred Walker, 64, passed away at the Worley Hospital, Friday, July 28, 1972, after several months of illness.

Her home address was of Wheeler, Texas. She was born August 4, 1907 at Pratt, Kansas. She was the daughter of H. Russell. She was married to Frank D. Walker, Sr., June 10, 1928 at Miami, Texas.

Mrs. Walker moved to Miami with her family in 1909 and lived there until her marriage in 1928 when she moved to Mobeetie. She moved to a ranch north of Wheeler and had lived there for the past 22 years.

She was a member of the First Methodist Church, Wednesday Study Club, Wheeler Garden Club and had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star for the past 43 years. She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Mobeetie Chapter and of the Wheeler Chapter, Past Worthy Advisor of the Rainbow Girls, and served in the Grand Office of Texas for 5 years.

She is survived by her husband, Frank, Sr. 1 son Frank, Jr. and 2 brothers, Frank Russell, Miami, and Charlie Russell of Claude, 1 sister, Mrs. Della Finch, Amarillo and 2 Grandchildren.

Services were held at the First Methodist Church in Wheeler, Sunday, July 30, at 4:30 P.M. with Rev. O.A. McBrayer of Lubbock officiating. Interment was in the Wheeler Cemetery with Wright Funeral Home directing.

Pall Bearers were, Wayne Edwards, Farmer Hefley, C.J. VanZandt, Max Wiley, Dave Agnew, and Loyd Lee.

Honorary Pallbearers were, Ed Johnston, D.O. Beene, and Cliff Pyeatt.
