Virginia DeLoera

1940-2010

COLORADO CITY -- After decades of loving work and devotion to her church and her family, Mrs. Virginia DeLoera, of Colorado City, is resting. DeLoera, 70, died Friday night in a local hospital. Funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Ann's Catholic Church with Father Michael Udegbunam officiating. Burial followed in the Mitchell County Cemetery under the direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.

Mrs. DeLoera was born May 22, 1940 in Bastrop to Pedro and Olivia Luera and had been a lifelong resident of Colorado City. She was a retired cafeteria worker for Colorado ISD. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church where she was very active in all church activities, especially, the Guadalupana Society. She was instrumental in organizing the first annual St. Ann's Fall Festival more than 35 years ago. Her family still has a photo of her crowning the first queen at the festival. Since then she has volunteered her time and skills to the church. She tirelessly spent hours serving others, both in the funeral ministry where she cooked meals for families of 50 or more to other fundraising events put on by St. Ann's. Her family will remember her piety and the love she showed for her children, grandchildren and great-grandson. She supported them not only by attending plays and sporting events but watched over their religious education as well.

She is survived by three sons, Tommy and wife, Elizabeth DeLoera of Snyder, Rey and wife, Linda DeLoera of Boerne, and Manuel and wife, Alice DeLoera of Colorado City; three daughters, Lisa and husband, Craig Randolph of Snyder, Janie and husband, Steve Kiser of Nevada, Texas and Mary Anne and husband, Marty Davila of Colorado City; the father of her children, Tomas DeLoera of Loraine; four brothers, Pete Luera, Ernest Luera and Richard Luera, all of Colorado City and Rudy Luera of Houston; four sisters, Sally Arocha and Lydia Garcia, both of Colorado City, Sandra Luera of Austin and Susan Garcia of Watauga; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Adon DeLoera; a sister, Alivina Luera and four brothers, Alvino, John, Ruben and Robert Luera.
