Herbert Junior Cockrum, 80, long-time Hereford resident, died Monday, June 24th, 2013, in Castro County at the Dimmitt Nursing Home.

A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 27, in Hereford Heritage Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 411 6th St., with Reverend James Peach, pastor of Frio Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in West Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Hereford Heritage Funeral Home.

Herbert was born December 2, 1932, in Antlers, Oklahoma, to Bill and Johnny May (Gould) Cockrum. In 1958 he moved to Hereford, Texas, where he met and married Ruby Faye (Welch) Cockrum on August 16 of that same year. She preceded him in death in January of 2010. Herbert was a landfill operator and worked 31 years for the city of Hereford. He loved to visit and be around people, watch TV wrestling, spend time with his daughter Rosemary, and he loved to eat cookies. He also sold watermelons and cantaloupes.

Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, his parents; one sister, Lillie Mae Walker; 2 brothers, Billie Cockrum and Thomas Cockrum.

He is survived by 1 daughter, Rosemary Cockrum of Amarillo, 2 sisters, Nellie Gilliland and Hellen Hill of Hereford; niece Christine Back and husband Larry Back of Canyon; great-niece Stephanie Pierce; great-nephew Michael Pierce both of Hereford, and other numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials to any Cerebral Palsy or Diabetes Associations of your choice.

Chris Back, niece, and the family, would like to thank the Dimmitt Nursing Home staff and the Dimmitt Hospital staff for their kindness and generous help during Herbert's time of need.

HEREFORD - Ruby Faye Cochrum, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010.

Celebration of life services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Hereford Heritage Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Cochrum was born June 30, 1922, in rural Curry County, N.M., to Thomas James and Lou Evelyn Conn Welch. She married Herbert Junior Cochrum on Aug. 16, 1958, in Hereford.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Rose Mary Cochrum of Amarillo; two brothers, James Welch of Hereford and Barney Welch of Houston; and two sisters, Bea Young of Linden, La., and Rose Lee Yarbrough of El Paso.

The family suggests memorials be to American Diabetes Association, 8008 Slide Road, Suite 12-A, Lubbock, TX 79424; or Alzheimer's Association, 415 S.W. Eighth Ave., Amarillo, TX 79101.
