Last Rites for W.B. Phillips Held Saturday
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the First Baptist Church for W.B. Phillips, 79-year-old Deaf Smith County pioneer, who died Friday following a long illness.
Born Dec. 11, 1864 in North Carolina, Mr. Phillips came to Texas in 1891 and moved to Deaf Smith County in 1895. He moved to Hereford after engaging in farming and ranching operation in the Northeast part of the county and had been active in civic affairs until recent years. He had served as county commissioner for several terms.
Survivors include two sons, Coy and Earl Phillips, both of Hereford, and six grandchildren.
Well known among pioneers of this territory, Mr. Phillips had many friends throughout the Hereford area.
Rev. W.E. Barnes conducted the funeral service, assisted by Rev. Lawrence Bridges of the First Christian Church.
Interment was in West Park Cemetery.
