Funeral Service Held Tuesday For Hereford Pioneer
Mrs. Willie Clifford Wilson, 88, pioneer resident of Herefrod [sic] and mother of Bob Wilson, died at 11:55 Monday morning in Northwest Texas Hospital, Amarillo, and was buried at West Park Cemetery in Hereford, following graveside services at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon.
Mrs. Wilson, fondly remembered by many old timers of this area, suffered a heart attack Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 28. She was recovering from a flu illness at the time and had only been home from the hospital a week. She had been in poor health for the past year.
Mrs. Wilson, the widow of J.H. Wilson who died in 1939, came to Hereford with her husband in 1902 from McKinney. They lived on a ranch two miles north of town. She was one of the first members of the First Christian Church in Hereford. The Wilsons lived here until his death in 1939. She was born Sept. 18, 1864 in Opalika [sic], Ala.
Since 1939, Mrs. Wilson has made her home with her daughters, Mrs. Hazel Wilson Lewis and Floyd Avis Wilson in Amarillo. Other survivors are: Mrs. S.H. Booser, a daughter, Amarillo; Bob Wilson, son, Hereford, and three grandchildren, Judy Boozer, Amarillo, Marion Jo and Richard Faulkner Wilson, Hereford.
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday from the Ivy Chapel, Amarillo, conducted by Dr. Newton J. Robison, pastor of the First Christian Church, Amarillo.
Pall bearers were Travis Dameron, Don Loden, S.A. James, H.A. Shaw, E.M. Frost and H.A. Hunter.
