Jimmy Roberts, 77, former longtime Hereford businessman, died Sunday evening at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Amarillo.

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeremy Grant, pastor, officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in West Park Cemetery with arrangements by Gililland-Watson Funeral Home.

Mr. Roberts was born April 29, 1919, in Winston County, Miss. He married Betty Littlejohn in Winston County Aug 6, 1945. He was in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in Africa and Italy.

The family moved to Hereford in May, 1948, and opened Hereford Furniture across the street from the post office. The business later moved across the street from First National Bank and became Roberts Appliance Store.

Roberts then purchased a building on W. 3rd Street, where WH-TV & Appliance is now located. After 38 years in business, Roberts retired 10 years ago following a stroke.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; one daughter, Beverly Miller of Canyon; one son, Rick of Avendale, Az.; four brothers, Olyn and Billy of Louisville, Miss., Johnny of Baton Rouge, La., and Sam of Ashboro, N.C.; one sister, Margaret Porter of Columbus; one granddaughter and four step-grandchildren.

HEREFORD — Betty Jo Roberts, 87, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Brooks Chapel in Canyon with Jeff Cates, pastor of Canyon Country Church, officiating. Graveside services will follow at 4:30 p.m. in West Park Cemetery in Hereford. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon.

Betty Jo Roberts was born June 9, 1926, in Kaufman to Marvin and Verda Stanfield Littlejohn. She graduated from Vernon High School. She married James N. Roberts on Aug. 6, 1945, in Louisville, Miss., and he preceded her in death in 1996.

She was a longtime resident of Hereford, where she worked for KPAN Radio for many years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Hereford and sang in the church choir for many years. Betty Jo was an outgoing person and loved tennis, fishing and boating.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jimmy Littlejohn.

Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Miller and husband Mike of Canyon; a son, Rick Roberts of Phoenix; a granddaughter, Tracie Sutton and husband J.R. of Canyon; a great-granddaughter, Katelyn Sutton of Canyon; a stepgrandson, Randall Sutton of Quanah; and a nephew, Charles Littlejohn of Dallas.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Alzheimer's Association, 415 W. Eighth St., Suite 300, Amarillo, TX 79101.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
