HEREFORD - Stella Lee Fortenberry Sevier, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Montwood Church of Christ at El Paso with Randy Flynt, minister, officiating. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Gilland-Watson Funeral Home, Rose Chapel at Hereford. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery at Hereford.

Mrs. Sevier was born in Floyd County and had been a resident of El Paso since 1939. She was a graduate of West Texas State University and earned a master's degree at Texas Western College of Mines. She taught at numerous schools in Texas and New Mexico for 52 years, retiring from Yselta I.S.D.

She was recipient of several awards including Woman of the Year in 1987 by the El Paso Political caucus and was entered into the retired teachers Hall of Fame for her 39 years of service with Y.I.S.D. She was a former member of North Loop Church of Christ and was a member of Montwood Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Sevier, and a son, Leroy Sevier.

Survivors include a son, Lonnie Sevier of Clifton; a daughter, Carolyn Sevier Smith of Houston; four sisters, Mary Dorris of Clovis, N.M., Alta Mae Higgins of Hereford, Kate Bradley of Adrian and Chloe Dowd of Laurel, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home-East in El Paso.
