Private graveside services for Berry Royce Harris, age 83 of Seminole, Texas, will be held Friday, January 27, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Gaines County Memorial Cemetery, with Pastor Vance Thomas officiating. All services are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home.

Royce Harris was born January 31, 1939 in Jones, Louisiana, one of eleven children from the marriage of Robbie (Cole) and William Green Berry Harris. Royce married the love of his life, Glenda Lumaron Smith, on July 9, 1957. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cared deeply for his family. He never missed a day of work unless he was seriously ill.

Royce had been a working man all his life, first as a farmer, then as an oilfield hand, working his way up to a tool pusher. Twenty years ago he took a job as a truck driver to begin his second career, first hauling carbon dioxide to the oilfield, and then peanuts. At the age of 83 he was still working as a truck driver, a skill he was proud to pass on to his driving partner and grandson, Cole. He knew no other way of life other than to work so that he could provide for his family.

Royce Harris passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at his residence, surrounded by his family. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one daughter, Glenda Lavada Turnbull; one granddaughter, Jennifer Denise Salls; one great-granddaughter, Addyson Jolee Edwards; seven brothers, Calvin Harris, Earnest Harris, G.W. Harris, E.L. "Pete" Harris, James Herschel Harris, Hersey Harrell Harris, and Lee Harris; and one sister, Marie Moore. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Glenda Lumaron Smith Harris; one son, Steven Cole Harris and wife Marta; two sisters, Jewel Marie Harris Ruth and Betty Sue Harris Middlebrooks; three grandchildren, Billy Royce Routh, Corie Routh, and Cameron Truett Cole Harris; five great-grandchildren, Emmy Edwards and husband Austin, Bryan Routh, Staci Routh, Cadence Ray, and Kylie Routh; two great-great-grandchildren, Acklyn Edwards and Aspyn Edwards; a special family friend Margie Hicks; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Honorary pallbearers are Cole Harris, Billy Routh, Bryan Routh, Austin Edwards, Melvin Harris, Sergio Luna, and Doug Issac. The family would like to say a special thank you to Hospice of Lubbock staff, especial Candace Lewis, R.N., for the care and support provided.
