Mr. Quillen was born Oct. 18, 1933, in Bryan, the son of Archie and Richard Commodore Quillen. He married Betty Morris on March 8, 1952, in Plainview. Ray was the court reporter in Deaf Smith and seven surrounding counties for more than 40 years. He loved sports, was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and a member of First Baptist Church in Hereford.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Don Quillen; a granddaughter, Rayann Nicole Quillen; a brother, Edward Quillen; and four sisters, Lillian Fisher, Gladys Woods, Maxine Norman and Louella Walker.
Ray Quillen, 74, died Thursday, July 31, 2008.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; two sons, Gary Quillen of Dumas and Billy Quillen and wife Zina of Port Arthur; a daughter, Amy Lee and husband Rex of Canyon; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Betty was born Dec. 12, 1933, in Flomont to A.B. and Naomi Bynum Morris. She married Ray Quillen on March 8, 1952, in Plainview and moved to Hereford in 1978 from Dumas.
Betty was employed as a secretary for First Baptist Church for 12 years before retiring and was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Quillen was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, on July 31, 2008; a son, Dr. Don Quillen on June 28, 2000; and a granddaughter, Rayanne Nichole Quillen in June 1998; a brother, A.J. "Jack" Morris; and two sisters, Juanita Jones and Dorothy Winders.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Quillen of Dumas and Billy Quillen of Canyon; a daughter, Amy Lee and husband Rex of Canyon; two brothers, Fred Morris and wife Wanda of Two Buttes, Colo., and Albert Morris and wife Lillie of Alvarado; seven grandchildren, Mandy Garner of Paris, David Quillen and wife Lindsey of Hugo, Okla., Keeley Lee of Canyon, Austin Gambrel and wife Amanda of Dumas, Lacy Langley and husband Jackie of Bushland, Blaine Franz and husband Greg of Lumberton and Sherri Potter and husband Jason of Bridge City; and 11 great-grandchildren.
