LINDEN — Bennie Barker, 85, of Plano, formerly of Linden, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, in Plano. She was born May 14, 1927, in Linden, Texas, to Benjamin and Emil Swinney Yancy.She was employed by the city of Linden as secretary of the water and police departments and Allen Bros. Department Store. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Linden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred W. Barker Jr., her parents, two brothers and two sisters.Survivors include three sons, a daughter, three sisters, four grandsons, five great-grandchildren, and a very special granddog.
She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Linden, with Bro. Jackie Stanfield officiating. Interment will follow in Linden Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today, March 11, 2013, at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Life Care Center of Plano for the care they gave Mrs. Barker.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Linden or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
