Note: He fought in the Civil War and spent two years in a Union prison camp.


He Married Betty (Amanda) Churchwell, October 21, 1866, in Hardin Co., TN, and they had one son, Thad Ator. Betty died shortly after his birth. He then married Elizabeth S. Howell, June 10 1877, in Ripley Co., MO, and they moved to Erath Co., TX in 1883.
